Jill’s Story
I arrived at Wesleyan College as a young woman eager to learn, but I wasn’t prepared for what I would truly discover there. Wesleyan wasn’t just a campus to me; it was the first place where I felt the undeniable strength of women standing together. I remember walking across the quad and realizing how different it felt to be surrounded entirely by women—not competing, not posturing, but encouraging each other, challenging each other, celebrating each other. That environment cracked something open in me. It showed me that sisterhood isn’t a luxury. It’s a lifeline.
I didn’t have the words for it then, but I can see now that Wesleyan was where I first learned how powerful community can be. When one of us struggled, the rest of us shifted to fill the gap. When one of us succeeded, we clapped until our hands hurt. It wasn’t performative; it was genuine care. It was women believing in each other’s possibilities. That kind of belonging changes you. It certainly changed me.
Years later, when I became an entrepreneur, I found myself craving that same energy—that same circle of women who hold you up when the world feels too heavy. I loved running my business, but the truth was this: doing it alone felt like swimming upstream with weights on my ankles. And as a low-energy introvert, every in-person networking event drained me dry. I wanted connection, not exhaustion. I wanted relationships, not transactions. I wanted the kind of sisterhood I experienced at Wesleyan—heart-centered, generous, and steady.
One day, as I sat at my desk after yet another draining networking event, the thought hit me like a flash: What if I brought the circle to me? What if networking could happen in a way that honored who I am? I was already coaching on Zoom. I was already building relationships online. Why couldn’t community happen there too?
That question became the spark. I started hosting small virtual gatherings—nothing fancy, just women coming together to connect. And I felt the same warmth I felt at Wesleyan. The same belonging. The same lift. Women shared their dreams, their fears, their wins, their struggles. They supported each other without hesitation. They opened their hearts. They reminded each other of their brilliance. And I knew instantly: This is it. This is the sisterhood I’ve been missing.
Virtual Networkers grew from that moment—born out of my desire to bring women together in a way that honors our energy, our lives, and our brilliance. I founded it because I never want a woman entrepreneur to feel like she has to navigate this journey alone. We are building businesses while raising families, being daughters, partners, volunteers, and caretakers. We juggle so much, and yet we still rise. But we rise higher when we rise together.
Wesleyan taught me that. And every day in Virtual Networkers, I get to live it.
My wisdom is simple: Your strength expands when you stand in community. And I am here to remind every woman that she deserves to be supported, celebrated, and surrounded by sisters who see her shine.
